About the Project Human
Project Human is a group of individual volunteers, founded by Nefeli Gazis in September 2015 on Lesvos, Greece. With the Project Human and Attika we created new projects to fill the gaps of needs on Lesvos and to prepare the refugees for the cold temperatures and the long journey they still have ahead of them.
The people are suffering. Still no safe passage, refugees drowning every day, kids dying from hypothermia, people who are hungry, cold, sleeping without shelter and heating, and still no individual care.
Attika the Warehouse project, started beginning of December 2015, to provide clothes and aid to the people in need. With the support of many volunteers it became a place of over 400 square meters full with clothes, shoes, baby items, covers and much more.
A place where everyone who wants to help and needs to have access to aid can act. Thanks to Attika we can provide clothes & aid to all refugee camps on Lesvos.
During night we stay at the south coast shorelines patrolling for refugee boats, pull them out, and help the passengers out, trying to change the freezing kids at the coast, providing the kids a sweet to calm them and to put a smile on their face and try to make them feel safe. We try to keep the children warm, to feed the hungry and to welcome the passengers safe ashore.
Whenever we can, we support the clothes & shoes distribution at the refugee camp Afghan Hill, next to Moria registration camp. Afghan Hill has been built by volunteers from Better Days for Moria, as Moria camp does not provide enough space for all the people. Refugees come to Afghan Hill to get shelter, food, dry clothes and shoes after or before they have to register at Moria Camp.
The Attika project is also providing aid distribution at the ferry port for the refugees every afternoon and evening. We provide warm jackets, jumpers, scarfs, hats and gloves, water and snacks, baby food, diapers and toys for children, backpacks and blankets. At least a little help for the refugees before they leave the island to go to Athens (12hours ferry ride).
